Endodontic (root canal) treatment at Longborough is carried out by:

Mr William Scott

Mr William Scott BDS MSc MClinDent
Endodontist GDC 60093

William obtained his initial dental degree from Dundee University (1985). After graduating he worked for a number of years in both the NHS and private sectors of general dental practice in the UK. Returning to dental academia in the late nineties William studied advanced restorative dentistry for two years at Glasgow University, graduating with an MSc (2001). A further two years postgraduate training followed at the Eastman Dental Institute in London where he gained an MClinDent in Endodontology (2003).

William has worked exclusively as a referral endodontist for more than ten years in London and now in Dorking. He enjoys the challenge of working in high-quality, specialist orientated practices such as Longborough.

William spent a number of years living in France and somehow squeezed in a BA, MA and PHD in French History. Formerly a keen footballer and rock climber he now prefers the more sedate pleasures of baking, jigsaws and trying to train 'Eddy' the West Highland Terrier.

What is Endodontic treatment

A tooth generally needs Endodontic or root canal treatment because the pulpal tissue (the ‘nerve’) inside the tooth has become irreversibly damaged. Root canal treatment is directed towards removing inflamed or abscessed tissue.

The root canal system, especially in molars, is often complex and difficult to clean well. This is why many general dentists prefer to refer these cases to an Endodontist who has the training, specialised equipment and experience to deal with them well.

"After the initial numbing injection I felt no pain at all, during and after the treatments and no sense of panic or fear. I have no hesitation in recommending them and reassuring other nervous patients that they are in great hands."

Mr N W - June 16

"I’ve been having this niggling dental pain for years now. It was something that I had come to accept as 'normal.' After my first visit to William Scott for root canal treatment at Longborough I was no longer in pain. It was like a revelation to me.
The treatment I received was superb."

Mr S N - Oct 13

"I recently had root canal treatment for one of my teeth which was performed by William and I wanted to express my great thanks to him and his dental assistant Sarah. I wasn’t looking forward to the treatment but they very soon put me at ease and were very professional in their approach."
